I think art is not about copying things exactly but about developing your own style. I've never had the patience to redraw photos and found it much better to draw just the way it feels right for me. What I want to say is: Don't give up if your drawings don't look the way you wanted or like the ones done by other artists. Just find your own style - it's so much more fun! <3
